I finally, finally have some solid wins to report. Credit @jessmillerdraws on ig While building this coaching thing from the ground up and figuring out my coaching style, my workout style, and which programs to build and kind of floundering in all of it... I happen to be excelling at my day job in cannabis retail. I was offered a promotion to management recently, and it involves moving stores, and a significant increase in responsibilities and income. I have really thrived since joining the company, and have helped thousands of people find relief from their ailments through cannabis medicine, one on one connection, and holding space for their pain and discomfort as we problem solve our way out and into a better quality of life. My last day as a budtender in my local store was yesterday and I had some feels about leaving my friends and coworkers behind. But ultimately I'm truly excited about this move and promotion, I really love my ability to use herbal knowledge and body knowledge and experience to help someone feel better, do better, be better. As a manager in this smaller location, I'll have even more of an opportunity to build relationships with my customers and help them find a happy existence through plant medicine. I can see the parallels between my style of Coaching and my Day Job, and why I thrive in it. At my day job, I'm problem solving for people using a lot of the same knowledge I use in my Coaching and Personal Trainer business- holistic wellness, body and anatomy, and herbalism, mental health, and nutrition- to assist people in finding holistic methods to heal or cope, using cannabis medicine. In my Coaching business I use that same knowledge base to hold space for my clients on their Journey, checking in with them, exploring the emotions around food, fitness, and caring for themselves, guiding them on fitness journeys and whole wellness. I truly never thought I would be combining all my nerd knowledge of herbalism and the body and mental health and end up with this comprehensive style of Coaching that involves so much . But I love it here. Today is day one of my weekend, and it's freaking beautiful. After taking three weeks off of heavy work outs and lifting, I picked up my weights again today and smashed through a beautiful full body workout as if I had never even pressed pause. Those B stance against the Wall Dead Lifts were fucking gnarly. By rep four my glutes were in full tremor. I had to take several pauses to make it to 10, and I left it there. Annnd then I did it again on the next side. I did add some cardio in because it's day 12 of my Follicular Phase which means I'm in full Beast Mode and I still had some energy to burn. I did 5 minutes of running the bottom step on my porch steps and then walked around the block and stretched out to cool down. And since the sun was shining, and it's my day off, and 70 degrees outside... I decided it was time to act like a Lion, or a lizard, whichever fits you best.... and I stretched out in the Sun. I spent a solid 3 hours basking in the sun after my workout. Ecstatic that I have the opportunity to charge my Solar batteries before I transition to a new store and a new role at my day job. I burned some Cinnamon and Palo Santo and watered all my houseplants and have spent time all morning whispering thanks to the Universe and my Ancestors and my Family for being here for me, for guiding me, for believing in me, and in general, loving me and being so amazing that I could grow. My Soft Girl Spring has lead me directly into a Peaceful Powerful place of transition that I have no fear in. The vibes here are immaculate, and I'm just floating on a sunbeam into abundance, gratitude, growth and wellbeing.
- Lounge Mode Activated
I have a complete awareness that Winter is designated as Rest Season, and that I maybe hustled a little too close to the Sun during what should have been my down time. But since I was working on other shit, and am too stubborn to sit down for long (and too prone to ADHD reset my life rampages) I find myself adoring a Soft Girl Spring. I am sleeping in, a lot. It's been dreamy. I'm napping on every day off, and Lounging hard. The love affair I've developed with Day Off Naps is quickly becoming my favorite fling. Today I napped on and off for three and a half hours and woke up to my husband snuggling up to me, forever my big spoon. I don't feel groggy or sluggish, just more and more refreshed. I've swapped my leggings and big shirts at bedtime for soft stretchy long nightgowns that feel simple and luxurious all at once and aside from running errands, I live in them for the duration of my off time. I am eating whatever I want whenever I want, which recently has involved a great deal of fruits and cheeses and salads. I've bought flowers for myself and my spaces at home and started seeds in little pots with my kids. I've turned shower time into lymphatic massage time and my allergies are less of a problem for me than ever before, and the bloating around this time of the month has also decreased a ton. Dancing and walking have been my go to rhythms lately when I crave movement. Though on average at work I'm getting about 6-7k steps in, so I'm not prioritizing heavy movement so much as just making sure I feel good about whatever it is I'm doing. Sometimes it's mobility. Sometimes it's yoga. The other day I grabbed my sword and simply floated through the 8 pointed star, trying to move slowly and gracefully through each movement. Kind like Tai Chi but with a sword in my hand instead. I've been drawing again, at the encouragement of my husband. Art has always been an emotional outlet for me, especially during my deepest lows. With more tools in my Mental Health Armory these days, I find myself reaching for art as an outlet less and less. But that would be a disservice to me, to detach fully from a very valuable and beautiful form of expression that kept me together when I thought life was tearing me apart. Soft Girl Spring is where I've landed in 2025. I'm enjoying feeling my way through it. I feel like a Lioness who's been stretched out in the Sun all afternoon. Right now there's a brown sugar and Bourbon marinated beef roasting in the oven with some carrots and I'm whipping up the creamiest garlic mashed potatoes to go with it. I'm planning a hot shower and massage later, and then I'll climb into another ultra soft nightgown. And it's the best finish to such a soft, slow, rainy day.
- Alchemizing Burn Out
Oh yes. I hit the wall last week. The one I've been so careful to avoid, and I landed smack on the front steps of Burn Out. I've been tired. Like dog fucking tired, dragging my ass every day, losing my spark, and dreading my routines. I'd noted the first thing that slipped- my skincare routine- and opted for buying makeup wipes as a temporary crutch, but I knew when I picked them up that something was amiss... I just didn't fully recognize what it was that was making washing my damn face every night so hard for me. Next was Insomnia. Really this should have been the first sign because I fell back into only getting 5/6 hours on average really quickly, and effortlessly. But after spending so much of my life on little sleep and staying up all night, it's NOTHING for me to fall back into it. And fall I did. Hard. I started casually tracking my sleep cycles and discovered that I was barely clocking 4-6 hours on average every night. Couple that with the 10 hours I work every day, 12 if you include GRWM time, plus client work, social media posting and campaigns, my own personal fitness routines, meal prepping, family and trying to stay present in my marriage.... Of course I'm teetering on a cliffs edge here. This is all without mentioning the timelines I have in place for some very specific and very large goals involving building my house and living on my property by the end of summer, with little in savings, a mediocre credit score and a car that needs repairs. Its fine. Everything's fine. So obviously I'm required to scale back a bit and scrape some of the shit off my plate. Womp womp. So How Do You Fix Burn Out We cut back on the most exhaustive things we can control. Focus on the "parts we can control," bit because sometimes we are just in-the-shit and the only way out is through and we simply cannot remove all stressors. Make a List of Control Look at your schedule. Look at your routines and be really honest about your daily habits lately. What is exhaustive that you can tweak? Are you hitting heavy workouts 4-5 days a week? Scale it back to 3 and change in some walks for those weights. Is your nighttime routine dragging you down? Shorten it up a bit so you can actually relax into it. Adapt What You Can't Control Work schedules, Classes, and Events often cannot be altered, so instead let's adapt to make them work for us. What is going on around these cemented schedules that we can adjust? How can we make those little tasks easier, or make your day more efficient so there's less pressure on you? Can you take a class remotely instead of on campus? What about that meeting or phone call? Can you throw dinner in the crockpot that week to take task strain off of yourself? Eat & Hydrate Listen, I know you're exhausted and hitting Macros can be stressful. So I'm urging you now, to throw your Macros in a box for a little while. Just stop counting them, stop measuring. If all you have the energy for is a frozen pizza or some take out, then do it. Just eat, preferably meals, and hopefully with at least a few veggies and some protein. If that much food freedom is scary for you, I get it, but I really want you to focus on just maintaining fueling your body regularly. A lot of us tend to skip meals when we're stressed or when we're busy, and it's SO HIGH KEY IMPORTANT for you to stay nourished and well fed. A starved body produces more cortisol than a fed body, and a cortisol body doesn't sleep, has a funky adrenal system and cannot focus to save their lives. A cortisol body sure as shit is burnt out too, and the whole point of this post is to NOT be burnt, so eat the damn pizza, hell get some TBell, idgaf. Just eat. And make sure you're drinking water. Ask for Help for Fucks Sake I said what I said and I know you read that right. 💯 Ask for some damn help. Tell the people around you that you're getting ready to swan dive off the deep end and your foundations are crumbling. You need rest. You need someone else to do the damn laundry. You need to borrow someone else's notes, you need someone else to do dinner, etc. Just reach out your damn hand and tell someone that's close to you that you need help. Delegate to your family members. Yes the towels might be folded wrong or maybe dinner isn't how you do it, but get tf over it. It's done and you didn't have to do it. The goal in these lists is to help you replan your strategies so that you don't feel like you're quitting or stopping or halting your progress or momentum, but instead you're alchemizing your obstacle from Burnt Out into healing and helping you keep the ball rolling. Am I utilizing all of these tools? YES. I've cut back my weightlifting and have included more gentle walks. I've been eating wholesome nourishing foods and guzzling water. I've also definitely eaten pizza. I've been going to bed by 10pm and sleeping in every chance I get. I've delegated more tasks to my family and asked them for help so I can get adequate rest. I've been doing this all week, and yes I'm still maintaining my work life and my client care. I'm taking more time for myself and I'm allowing my body what it needs to recover and reset. I'll continue in this way until I no longer feel like I'm climbing a mountain and sliding backwards every 2 steps. I hope this helps you alchemize your burn out into continued progress and success!
